8 Years And Counting! Celebrating Jayvee Veteran David Lee

Jingle Jam Workshop (December 13-14) Instructor David Lee

After taking his first dance class at Jayvee eight years ago, it was love at first sight for birthday celebrant David Lee!  Since then, he’s choreographed for numerous organizations such as CADC and Culture Shock LA to name a few.  Although another year older, and another year wiser, David never forgets where he came from and always comes back to offer love and support to our studio.  David continues to grow in artistry, leadership, and influence as he gains experience in the dance world.  With hundreds of thousands of YouTube views and climbing, there is nothing stopping this young and talented mover and we could not be more proud of him!

When and how long were you dancing with Jayvee?

2006 was my first time taking a dance class and it was at Jayvee. Shoutout to some of my first teachers, Justin, Vy, and Nico!

What have you been up to since Jayvee?

I graduated from UC Irvine with a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Ars and I’m currently a full time dance instructor.

What was most helpful to you in growing as a dancer?

1) Patience. Start off by taking beginner or intermediate classes and build your way up to advanced level classes.
2) Consistency of taking classes and practicing at home.
3) Don’t get comfortable!
4) Learn by watching! Ask questions.

What do you look for in the students that take your class?

Energy
Positivity
Chemistry
Openness
Responsiveness.

Do you follow a certain formula for choreographing, or, how do you choreograph?

I watch YouTube videos to get into the groove, then just freestyle and move! I find inspiration from everything around me - when I’m driving, playing video games, watching movies, and hanging out with friends!
